Peace

Lets follow in the order of advent and for a moment reflect on the Peace of Christ that came with His birth. A key Scripture for this season and topic is Isaiah 9:6:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
This prophecy reveals the coming Savior’s title as the Counselor and Prince of Peace. The function of a counselor is to guide, direct, and bring comfort unto those seeking his counsel. This directly ties with title as Prince of Peace - the One who brings ultimate peace.
In a town blanketed by a starry night sky, the turmoil and unsettled battle of both flesh and spirit would be met with Him who brings ultimate peace, and what a humble entrance of peace into the world as that a of baby, in a manger. That moment in time sparks an amazing peace to all nations, all people, every tribe, and every tongue with the opportunity to encounter such peace as never before.
John chapter 14 encapsulates Jesus’ words as He is comforting His disciples. They have acknowledge that their time with Him is drawing ever near. Jesus addresses the coming of Holy Spirit to them - the Helper, the Comforter. Near the end of the account, He states “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This promise of peace is an everlasting peace - given to us by Jesus Himself and through the power of the Holy Spirit. The peace of God that surpasses all comprehension (Philippians 4:7). Just as the angel of the Lord declared to Mary to inform her of her role as the mother of Jesus, “do not be afraid,” let those same words that Jesus declared unto His disciples resonate within your heart, and let the peace of the Lord rest upon you this day.
God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman let nothing you dismay. Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day. To save us all from Satan’s power when we had gone astray, Oh tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy, oh tidings of comfort and joy.
