Let the Water Flow

Let’s look at the passage found in John 7:37-39
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
It is amazing that as we pour out unto others, Jesus pours back into us - with the fullness of Himself. What a beautiful, continual flow. We looked at this last week, in the analogy of our lives as clay pots. As we read in John, through believing in Jesus Christ, we have streams of living water flowing out from us; flowing into the lives of those all around us. Yet so often we can clog this flow, or neglect it the point where it’s hard to tell if this river of life is truly flowing out from each of us. And what happens to water if it sits too long - it becomes stagnant, and a breading ground for the unclean. Now to set it straight, the stream of life that flows from Jesus never runs dry and never becomes unclean, but once in us, we must make sure it is flowing as pure as it is from Jesus. So how can we keep our streams of life flowing? Here’s just a few points:
Continually pour our hearts and praise on the Father. Psalm 42:4 and 62:8 reference the outpouring of our hearts to God. Through our continual communication with God, we leave ourselves open to receive from Him. This enables Father God to pour into us so that we can pour into others.
Pour our into others lives. Just as was stated earlier, the streams of living water that flow from us need to reach those around us. Once swept by the current of the stream you can not help but be overcome with the love of Jesus. As beneficiaries of this water, it is our duty to share the promise that Jesus has placed in each one of us.
Continually flow in the fullness of Holy Spirit. The living water that flows in us is the work of the Holy Spirit - a continual flow of His presence, peace, and power. Exercise the spiritual gifts we have been blessed with (I Corinthians 12) and live, move, and breath in the flow of Holy Spirit. This flow, extended to others, with draw them to the Father.
All of these points have something in common: taking action. Let us not become complacent in our walk with Jesus, but daily act as an extension of His love to the world, flooding this earth with the living water that only He can give.
Lord I want more of You
Living Water rain down on me
Lord I need more of You
Living breath of life come and fill me up
