Do you ever come across a word that just catches you, and you let it saturate your thinking for more than a quick second? I love when that happens to me, and recently, I felt that with the word illumination.  What a great word.  So vivid, so much meaning - to bring light to, clarity, to glow.  This very word also describes what the amazing love and power of Christ.  2 Timothy 1:10 states:

“And now He has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior.  He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.”

So with the amazing work of the cross Jesus has illuminated the way to life - eternal life that is! And that same illumination transforms us when we accept Him in our lives.  2 Corinthians 4 discusses how His light shines in our hearts, and reveals His glory and the Good News to others.  So what are the effects of this illumination in our lives?

    1. Our hearts are illuminated with the love of Christ.  Our cold, dead spiritual hearts burst to life in radiant light the moment we confess Christ as Lord.  Our spiritual GPS system is now positioned on the path to eternal life!

    2. Our minds are illuminated with understanding through the Holy Spirit.   Once filled with the Holy Spirit, the Scriptures are illuminated and we are filled with understanding.  Our spiritual eyes and ears are opened to receive what the Lord desires to reveal and speak to us.

    3. Our lives are illuminated to show the mighty power of Jesus to others.  The light of Jesus fills our very hearts and bursts forth to share with others this radiant love of Jesus, and how nothing is better than entering into a love relationship with the King of Kings!

With all of this illumination, we must remember that if a light or glass becomes dirty, the light dims.  We must walk in a manner that keeps the light of Jesus shining brightly, illuminating the world to see the glory of God revealed.

Let God illuminate your life right now with the power, might, and love that only He can bring, reflecting the light of our Savior and King, Jesus.
