Ambassadors in a Foreign Land
2 Corinthians 5: 20-21 states:
“So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’ For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” Have you every thought what it would be like to represent a country in a foreign land. Representing the philosophies, ideals, and people of your home country. Well actually you already do! As Paul wrote in his second letter to the church at Corinth, we all are Christ’s ambassadors. We represent Him to all nations, every tribe, every tongue. We are the hands and feet of Christ, reaching out to represent His saving grace and love in a physical manner to those who have not yet encountered the message of the Cross!
Jesus said “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But My Kingdom is not of this world.” We too represent this kingdom that is not of this world - we represent the Kingdom of God!! And this is why we are ambassadors to a foreign land, a land that is not our home, for our home is in heaven!
Let’s look at three aspects, that is, tasks of ambassadors:
1. An Ambassador represents their home land in a foreign country. As we just looked at, we represent the Kingdom of God and its message of salvation. We bring the Kingdom of God here on earth. That is a thought that has always impacted me. Here on earth, we are bringing God’s Kingdom in reality - sharing a piece of it with those around us in this foreign land, spreading the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, amidst the darkness of the earth.
2. An Ambassador represents peace in a foreign country. We have been filled with the Holy Spirit - the comforter, bringing peace into our lives. Jesus Himself is the Prince of Peace. We have the opportunity to live in the peace of God and bring others into that peace through a relationship with Jesus.
3. An Ambassador spreads the philosophy of the home country - We spread the Good News of the Gospel everywhere we go (we should be!) As ambassadors of Christ we represent His awesome work on the Cross and the redemption we receive. We are all sinners, but saved by the grace of God when we enter into that relationship with Him - this is the letter written on our hearts - on display for all to see: “You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” 2 Corinthians 3:3
Let’s all keep in mind that we are Christ’s ambassadors - and we have work to do. It’s time to spread the love of Jesus Christ in this foreign land and daily live with a Kingdom perspective. Allow God to use you as He has called all of us - Ambassadors of His Heavenly Kingdom, here on earth!
